What a year. We’ve all lamented about the ups and (mostly) downs that 2020 has brought…seriously 2020 is the pits. But instead of focusing on the downs, I wanted to share the positives of being a NACMA member during such a crummy year.
1) This year's membership is FREE…for anyone! From a senior-level administrator, a graduate assistant at a school that wouldn’t normally have the funds to provide membership, one of the many industry free agents, an unpaid undergraduate intern, or someone looking to break into the industry…you all have the ability to join to learn, grow, and network. So what are you waiting for? Register here. Shoutout to the NACDA staff and NACMA board for making this a reality in 2020.
2) Just announced this past week…NACMA launched a microsite called Resilience. The site is designed to offer resources, inspiration, and a needed reminder of the need to look out for each other and yourself. So many people have had their employment temporarily or permanently affected by the pandemic, so NACMA created an opportunity for people to put their name on the free-agent list. Employers…you can go look at this talented list if you are in a position to hire or even get some freelance help.
3) It’s a COMMUNITY. You can find a mentor, connect with a colleague who is doing amazing things, and truly expand your network just by logging in and sending an email. Don’t forget to nominate your young professionals for NACMA YP of the Month to help their community grow too.
4) Grow by participating in the super regular webinar, panel, and keynote educational sessions provided free of charge. The NACDA and NACMA leadership has doubled down on these offerings, listening to the suggestions of members and embracing tough social justice and collegiate athletics scenarios.
While there have been many downs in 2020, I hope you are prioritizing mental health, continuing to connect with friends, colleagues, and mentors, and utilizing the free resources NACMA is offering to grow your career.
Stay well,
- Zach Schroeder (@Z_Schroeder)
