Coming into what I’m personally calling “mega-crossover season” a few ideas have been bouncing around in my head, so I thought I would take this time to process and share my thoughts as we all go into this crazy time.
Make the big time where you are… As our friend Tyler Knowles said back in episode 12 of the Power 5 Mentality Podcast. This phrase has rung a lot of truth for me recently. You might not be in the situation you want to be in right now, or you might be going through struggles that no one can understand. Sometimes taking strength in showing up every day and making your situation the best it can be is what gets you to the next day and the day after that. We’ve all seen almost a whole year of a global pandemic and there is nothing we can do about it (other than wearing your mask and all of the CDC guidelines). It is easy to feel hopeless and like you are not in control. But what I’ve clung to is making the best out of where I am right now.
“Since I’m having the time of my life, I might as well have fun.” – Jon Spoelstra (Ice to the Eskimos: How to Market a Product Nobody Wants)… I’ve always been the person that moves my whole day around for a chance to watch or work a sporting event, but through the last year, I’ve struggled with my why. For me what is “fun” about working in sports has always been working events, but when that was taken away I was left asking what was “fun” about my job. What brought me back was realizing the amazing privilege it is to tell student-athletes stories and help the world know how uniquely talented they are. So, if I’m trusted with this privilege… I might as well have fun.
Finally, in honor of women’s history month here is your reminder that… Women Belong in Sports. (Full blog on this topic coming soon).
Thank you for joining me on this rambling journey. As we all take part in mega-crossover season make sure to take care of yourself and reach out if you need to talk to someone. My DM’s are always open (emily_mcm16).
